"Maternal Fibers" Series of Hyperrealistic Drawings
Contemporary animal art exploring the softness of fiber and the primal bond
The Maternal Fibers series was born from a pivotal encounter: that between a raw, artisanal medium and the intimate universality of the maternal bond in the wild.
Following an exploration of statuary in Wild Allegories and the illusion of relief in Wild Illusions, this collection marks a gentler, more organic, and deeply human immersion. It celebrates the protective instinct that runs through all living things—that silent bond between a mother and her young—captured in all its vulnerability and power.
The Dialogue Between Gesture and Material
In this series, the medium is no longer merely a receptacle: it becomes a full-fledged participant in the artwork. Each drawing comes to life on exquisite handmade paper with frayed edges and an irregular texture. Crafted in the studio from recycled paper scraps, this paper carries within it a memory, a warmth, and a unique texture that interact with the lines.
The meticulous application of graphite and carbon blends seamlessly into the texture of the fiber. The nuances of light and shadow seek not only to sculpt the animal’s form, but also to convey the tenderness of a touch, the softness of its fur, the warmth of its breath, or the intensity of a protective gaze.
An ode to the passing down of knowledge and the fragility of life
Each work by Maternal Fibers is an invitation to slow down and observe. By capturing these moments of wild connection on precious handmade paper, the project seeks to remind us of the essential yet fragile beauty of these moments of connection. It is a poetic meditation on the continuity of life, in which the drawing becomes the guardian of a raw and timeless emotion.
